Breaking the Myth: Why Q1 is an Untapped Goldmine for Advertisers
Blogpost - Advertiser Insights
When it comes to digital advertising, the general belief is that November and December are the peak months to run campaigns. With Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas, advertisers increase budgets to capture high-intent consumers. However, our recent analysis, based on internal data from hundreds of campaigns from our network, reveals a surprising insight:
📉 January–February CPAs (Cost Per Action) were 34-40% lower than in November–December (going back two years).
📈 That means for the same budget, advertisers can get 52-67% more conversions (such as app downloads, form completions, or purchases) in the first two months of the year compared to the last two months of the year!
📈 At the same time conversions increased by 20% from December 2024 to January 2025.
So smaller CPAs and more conversions? Yes, please!
Why Is This Happening?
While Q4 is known for high competition and increased consumer spending, January and February see a significant drop in ad costs as many brands pull back their budgets after the holiday season. This reduced competition lowers CPA, making it an excellent time for advertisers to maximize performance.
Here’s why smart advertisers should consider shifting more budget to Q1:
✅ Lower Costs, Higher ROI – With fewer advertisers bidding on placements, ad costs drop, making conversions more cost-efficient.
✅ Less Competition for Audience Attention – The ad space isn’t as crowded, which means more visibility and engagement.
✅ New Year, New Consumer Mindset – Consumers are actively searching for solutions tied to New Year’s resolutions, financial planning, fitness, travel, and personal development.
✅ Stronger Long-Term Performance – Capturing early-year users can lead to sustained engagement and lifetime value.
What This Means for Advertisers
If your strategy heavily favors Q4, it’s time to rethink budget allocation. Here’s how you can capitalize on Q1’s potential:
1️. Reassess your ad spend: Don’t exhaust your entire budget in Q4—reserve funds for a high-impact start in Q1.
2️. Optimize for conversions: With lower CPAs, focus on performance-driven campaigns like lead generation and app installs.
3️. Leverage seasonal trends: Beginning of the year is big for fitness, wellness, finance, and self-improvement—align campaigns accordingly.
4️. Test and scale: Run A/B tests on different creatives, audiences, and formats to find the best-performing strategies.
Final Thoughts
While Q4 will always be a key period for advertisers, Q1 presents a unique, data-backed opportunity to drive results more efficiently. If your brand has traditionally overlooked January and February, now is the time to rethink your approach.
